Police Officer Anthony Louis Woods

Officer Anthony Woods was shot and killed after responding to a domestic violence call. 

Officer Woods arrived alone at the call at approximately 1920 hours. After Officer Woods entered the residence, the suspect shot a woman who was inside, wounding her in the arm and leg. A struggle ensued between Officer Woods and the suspect, and Officer Woods was shot twice in the head and twice in the shoulder.

The suspect tried to escape out the back of the house, but he was confronted by an arriving officer and committed suicide. 

Officer Woods was transported to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis where he died a short time later. 

Officer Woods had been a member of the Memphis Police Department for seven years and was assigned to the East Precinct. He is survived by his wife, who is a deputy jailer, two sons, and a daughter.
