Police Officer Clayton Wayne Hicks, Jr.

Officer Clayton Hicks was shot and killed while off duty after being recognized as a police officer.

 Officer Hicks had attended a party at a friend's house. A partygoer recognized him as an officer who had almost arrested her for a domestic violence charge several weeks earlier. The woman's boyfriend then started arguing with Officer Hicks, pulled out a handgun, and shot him. Officer Hicks was armed but did not fire his weapon. The two suspects were arrested later in the day.

Officer Hicks' killer was found guilty of reckless homicide and sentenced to 42 months in prison.

Officer Hicks had been employed with the Memphis Police Department for three years.
